UNRULY. The Body in Punk / AROS x Derek Ridgers
UNRULY. The Body in Punk shows work of artists and photographers including Derek Ridgers who were either part of or inspired by the punk movement, with a primary focus on the 1970s to 1980s, and spanning examples from the UK, Eastern and Western Europe. Featuring around 130 works, the exhibition traces punk’s origins in 1970's London and shows how the movement spread and changed – with a special focus on Berlin's subcultures. Pain, wildness, imagination. Energy, boldness, defiance. Punks used the body as a form of resistance against discipline and societal norms imposed by a world they saw as already collapsing. In punk, bodily expression was political.
Exhibition now on until 13th December at ARoS Aarhaus Art Museum xhibitions/unruly-the-body-in-punk/in Denmark. Curated by Marie Arleth Skov @@mariearlethskov
